Travel: My First Post-Pandemic Vacation to Puerto Rico

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic I was an avid traveler, always finding new destinations and places to explore. While I haven’t been on any recent trips in a while, I wanted to go somewhere close (US territory) but a place that would still give me the “island vibe” I was going for. After researching a few places on Tik Tok, I decided to go to San Juan, Puerto Rico. I’ve been to Puerto Rico a few times (the last time was in 2013), but as the saying goes “third time’s a charm.” As a result, below are some of my highlights from the trip.

Old San Juan

One of my favorite parts of the trip was definitely going back to Old San Juan. I love the architecture there and now as an adult in her mid 30s, I have a greater appreciation for it now. We ate at a small Puerto Rican restaurant and the food was absolutely delicious and explored local small businesses.

Dinner at Raya
Just minutes from our hotel is a really nice hotel called O:LV Fifty Five. Inside the hotel was this luxe restaurant called Raya that had amazing reviews. The Caribbean/Asian inspired dishes were created by a local chef named Mario Pagan that is pretty well known. The food and drinks were a bit pricey but the ambiance was spectacular.

Resting and Relaxing

Aside from exploring local shops and restaurants, I spent a good amount of time laying around the beach at our Hotel Condado Ocean Club and enjoying the feeling of doing absolutely nothing. The trip definitely made me realize I need to take more time off for myself and enjoy spending time relaxing.
