Now that some of us are transitioning back into the office, you probably have the urge to catch up with friends for happy hour or enjoy a lovely dinner with your significant other after work. Plans are finalized, now you’re deciding what you should wear. You want to look professional in the office but not too subtle or bland for happy hour. There’s no time to go home and change or space to carry a new outfit to work with you. What do you do? To help you avoid the fashion dilemma and potentially bailing out on your friends, I have a few tips to help dress up your work look to evening chic!
Detailed Blouses
I love detailed blouses like satin camis and bow blouses because they are not only flattering underneath your power suit or a cute sweater for work, but are also perfect for a night out. When you arrive at the restaurant or event of choice, simply take off your blazer or sweater and voilà, a new look!
Change Up Your Accessories
If you’re into color like me, I shy away from bold accessories during the workday simply because I don’t want my accessories to overshadow my outfits. Typically, I like to wear small, hoop earrings or pearl studs. However, when I know I have an outing after work to attend, I bring a pair of earrings or accessories with me to spruce up my look. For the summer, gold complements so many colors such as coral orange, soft pinks, and earth tones (in case you have to wear traditional business colors).
Try a Bold Lip
Depending on your event after work, you may have the perfect outfit, but want to spice up your look with a sultry lipstick. When choosing the right color, I’ve learned that certain shades should be worn for certain seasons. For example, darker colors are more popular for fall and winter than they are for spring and summer. For warmer weather, aim for brighter hues like the selection I’ve linked below. P.S. I recommend applying your lipstick on your way to your destination as you want to have appropriate boundaries for your work and personal life.
Bonus tip: Regardless of the occasion, I always have small personal toiletries bag with some of my favorite personalized items in it. When you’re on the go, I think it’s a good idea to keep makeup essentials (powder makeup, lipstick, etc), a small bottle of perfume, and deodorant, so you’re refreshed, glowing, and ready to mingle with friends. For your shopping pleasure, I’ve put together a glam bag below. Enjoy!
