My Wardrobe Refresh with M.M. LaFleur

With the warmer weather we’ve experienced lately in DC, I was inspired to complete a much-needed wardrobe audit of my seasonal wardrobe. It’s been awhile since I’ve gone through my closet and evaluated items I wanted to keep or get rid of, especially when it comes to my spring work wardrobe. After a few hours of creating several folded piles for items I wanted to giveaway versus what I wanted to keep for this year, I was now ready to think about what other key pieces I wanted to include in my new spring look for this season. As I mentioned in a previous Instagram post here, I recently cut my hair into what I affectionately like to call “The Business Bob.” With the new season ahead and new ‘do,  I wanted to incorporate new workwear looks into my wardrobe that embodies my classic work style with a modern twist. In looking at my work priorities, I also wanted my new clothing items to be chic yet comfortable given my upcoming work travel obligations. It’s been a while (since pre-COVID) that I’ve completed a substantial amount of work travel, so I wanted to give my professional travel wardrobe a refresh.

As you guys know, I’m always on the hunt to try out different workwear brands of quality that match my personal style. So when I came across a few pieces on M.M. La Fleur’s website, I wasted no time scheduling a styling session at their DC Showroom to receive style assistance and view their latest spring collection.

About M.M.LaFleur

For those that are not familiar, M.M. LaFleur is a women-founded brand that focuses on creating sustainable work clothing for professional women. Frustrated by a lack of women’s workwear options that were both stylish and practical, the company’s CEO, Sarah LaFleur teamed up with Miyako Nakamura, a former head designer of Zac Posen),  and Narie Foster in New York to launch M.M.LaFleur in 2013. Aside from their commitment to creating responsible and inclusive workwear, M.M. LaFleur also gives back to worthy social causes and organizations such as Girl Scouts of America to help raise money for membership scholarships and a NY-based organization called Bottomless Closet, to provide NYC women professional attire to enter and succeed in the workforce.

M.M. LaFleur has showroom locations in New York (their headquarters) and Washington, DC. For more information on the brand check out their website here

My Styling Session Experience

Prior to my actual visit I was asked a few questions about my style preferences such as silhouettes and colors as well as my size. I was also asked about what my current style needs so that a stylist could have a few pieces picked out for me to choose from during the session.

I’ve personally never worked with a stylist before since I typically know what I like and what to look for while shopping, but I really like the idea of having someone there that’s also eagerly excited to talk about workwear as I am and serves as a thought partner when putting together looks based on my personal preferences. I really enjoyed the experience and highly recommend collaborating with a stylist at least once during your professional career. I think it only helps you to know and better explain your personal work style to others.

My Top Picks

After trying on a few looks from M.M. LaFleur’s spring collections, I decided on which looks I wanted to take home with.

As mentioned previously, I wanted to select a few capsule ( a small collection of clothes that can be put together in different ways) pieces that I could wear for my upcoming trips that were comfortable and required minimal upkeep.

As a result, below are the pieces I picked out. After I made my selections, my stylist placed the shipping order (all clothing at the showroom are for try-on purposes) and I received the package within three days.

I can’t wait to share with you guys how I decided to style the pieces, so stay tuned for feature blog posts! Are you considering a spring work wardrobe refresh with M.M. LaFleur? If so use the code SACSHA20 to receive 20% off your next order. Let me know in the comments.
